E.164 is the international standard for formatting telephone numbers. An E.164-formatted phone number contains the following elements:
- A + (plus) symbol
- International country calling code
- Local area code
- Local phone number
The following example identifies the elements of the E.164 telephone number:
When you enter an E.164 formatted phone number in a field in Ringba, you should not include punctuation between the elements. However, Ringba can automatically remove spaces and hyphens.
Ringba creates most of the numbers you use in your account, such as those in a number pool, so you don't have to worry about the format. When you enter phone numbers in the following places in Ringba, you should use E.164 format:
- When you create a target or ring tree target with a number rather than a SIP address
- In the Call Tracking Tags section of your campaign if you are using number pools
- When blocking numbers you don't want to accept calls from

When do I not need to use E.164 format?
A few Ringba-related phone numbers might not be suited to use E.164 format:
- Your landing pages where you display numbers from a number pool. You should format the phone number on your landing page however you want to present the number to potential callers. The Ringba JavaScript snippet replaces every instance of the Number to Replace with a number pool number formatted the same way as the number appeared on the landing page.
- The Number Format field in the General Info section of your campaign. If you used the Advanced Alternatives for Displaying a Number Pool Number on a Landing Page, this field controls the format the JavaScript uses to output number pool numbers on your landing page.
- Your Ringba user profile. The profile you create for yourself on the Settings > Profile screen is informational only and not validated by Ringba. You can enter your phone number on this screen any way you prefer.
