URL parameters pass information directly into Ringba for reporting and integration with other software platforms. For example, you might want to pass an affiliate ID or keyword into Ringba. You can also use this data to control how calls should be routed, giving you the ultimate control over your call traffic.
Passing specific information into Ringba about your users lets you filter and group by this data in the reporting interface. The more detailed the information you pass into our system, the more detailed and flexible our reporting system becomes.
You can also use this information as tag routing filters for your targets. If you want to use a URL parameter for reporting purposes, then it's not necessary to do anything: as soon as you receive these tags they appear under the Tags tab when you expand a row for a call in the Call Details Report.
If you want to use the tags as tag routing filters, you need to do a little more work. First, you must create a URL parameter to declare this value in Ringba. You can use this URL parameter just as you receive it from another platform or you can change how it appears to beautify and make it easier to understand. The following sections of this article explain how to do both.
After creating the parameter, the last step is to add a filter for your target according to what you want to accomplish.
How To Create a URL Parameter
To create a Ringba URL Parameter:
- Navigate to Integrations > URL Parameters.
The URL Parameters screen appears. - Click Create URL Parameter.
A form appears to create your new parameter. -
Configure the URL Parameter Options:
- URL Parameter
- Reporting Menu Name
- Report Menu Name
- Click Create to save the URL parameter.
To use the URL parameter in Ringba just as you receive it
For example, if you want to receive the parameter as name, then you must type name in both the URL Parameter field and the Report Name. Both must contain the exact string the client uses to name the tag. For the Reporting Menu Name field, enter User.
To give the information a different name in Ringba
In this example, a number pool captures the URL of the website of the visitor, which contains information as parameters. You can rename the information in the parameters. For example, you receive this:
www.mytest.com?ftv=true
Where ftv means first time visitor. You can choose to declare the parameter in Ringba to be presented as first time visitor instead of as ftv. To make this declaration, you create it as presented below.
Using URL Parameters as Tag Routing Filters
Once you have created the URL parameters, you can now use them as tag routing filters. To do this, navigate to your target and go to the Tag Routing Filters section. Under the User dropdown, you see the URL parameters you have added to your account. From here, you can configure your routing logic and use the parameter as a filter for the specified target.
